Samy Hadjadj is Professor of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Poitiers and Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist at Poitiers University Hospital, Poitiers, France. He is a specialist in internal medicine, diabetes, and endocrinology. Professor Hadjadj completed his postgraduate training as a fellow of the Nancy Medical University and subsequently did a postdoctoral fellowship in Endocrinology in Angers and completed his PhD under the mentorship of Professor Michel Marre, in Paris. He was appointed as Assistant Professor of Endocrinology in Poitiers in 2004 and full-term professor in 2007. He spent a one-year sabbatical at Duke University (North Carolina, USA) in 2010. He served as secretary of the EDNSG (European Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group) 2009-2012, and of the SFD (French-speaking Diabetes Society) 2013-2015.

His main areas of research interest currently include the pathophysiology (including genetics), prognosis (biomarker approach), and therapy of diabetes complications, with a special focus on diabetic kidney disease. Professor Hadjadj has published his work in a number of international peer-reviewed journals. He was recently elected as a committee member of the Mediterranean Group for the Study of Diabetes, which has the remit of fostering research and disseminating knowledge regarding diabetes in the Mediterranean region.
