Professor Adela Rovira welcomed the participants:
" Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Mediterranean Group for the Study of Diabetes (MGSD), it is my honour and great pleasure to welcome you to attend the 13th MGSD congress in Barcelona 2013.
On this occasion, we have prepared an interesting scientific programme that aims to meet the expectations of the attendees as well as the whole community involved in diabetes and belonging to the Mediterranean region. The programme is being designed to provide up-to-date knowledge, with lectures and workshops with a broad and in-depth content and fits well with the expectations of everyone from young investigators to senior researchers.
A large part of the congress will also be dedicated to the discussion of the following topics: complications, non-pharmacological treatments, education and prevention, psychological approach, comorbidities and several controversies.
Moreove, an important part of the Congress is the sharing and discussion of original papers on diabetes, presented either as posters or oral communications.
This year 110 abstracts have been submitted, 4 will be given as short oral presentations on Friday, April 5 during the plenary session; others will be displayed as posters during the two days of the congress.
This event will also be a great opportunity to extend your network in the diabetes community, with time dedicated to informal exchanges.
We are pleased to welcome you in Barcelona. "
