Membres du board : Michel MARRE
Current Position:
Head of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition Department in Hôpital BICHAT, Paris.
Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Faculty of Medicine Xavier BICHAT, University Paris VII.
Director of the INSERM Research Unit U695 entitled « Genetic determinants of type 2 diabetes and its vascular complications ».
Special Area of Interest and Expertise:
1976-1980: Neural control of pancreatic endocrine secretions in the normal and diabetic rat.
Director: Prof. Roger ASSAN – Paris VI
1980-1982: Experimental studies of renin and kallikrein releases in the isolated perfused rat kidney. INSERM U36. Directors: Prof. Pierre CORVOL and Prof. Joël MENARD
1983-1987: Clinical studies on kidney function, hypertension and the use of ACE inhibitors in diabetic patients. Hôpital Saint-Louis, Paris. Director: Prof. Philippe PASSA. This period was inaugurated by a one-week period in Professor Carl-Erik MOGENSEN’s laboratory (Aarhus, Denmark), to set-up a radioimmunoassay for urinary albumin, and to learn renal clearance measurements, using radio-isotopes in humans.
1987 onwards: Clinical studies were pursuited in the same domain untill now, as head of Diabetes Unit in Angers University Hospital, and now as Head of the Diabetes Department in Hôpital BICHAT, Paris.
From 1994: Principal topic of interest dealt with the genetic factors influencing nephropathy in type 1 diabetes. This research was conducted principally in cooperation with Dr. F. ALHENC-GELAS (INSERM U367, Paris), and Prof. X. JEUNEMAITRE (INSERM U36, Paris).
Since 1994: A prospective follow-up study of 5 200 subjects of the French general population has been established in the Center-West part of France, in cooperation with Dr. E. ESCHWEGE, B. BALKAU, P. DUCIMETIERE (INSERM U258, Villejuif) and Dr. J. TICHET (IRSA, Tours), dealing with the components of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome (the « DESIR » study). DNA samples were collected at recruitment under Michel MARRE’s responsability.
Since 1995: A clinical trial has been setup in France, (and then in Europe and North Africa since 1997) comparing the usefulness of a low-dose of Ramipril, an ACE inhibitor, to placebo in type 2, non-insulin-dependent diabetic patients. End of study: 31th March 2001, DNA samples were collected from the French participants at inclusion into the study. Principal investigator: Michel MARRE.
Other Activities:
Past Member of the Committee of the EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes).
Past President of the European Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group.
